Music
The Choir is very talented and enthusiastic; we enjoy a diverse repertoire from traditional choral music to lively spirituals and everything between.
We encourage participation from the entire congregation in sung portions of the liturgy; the Psalm each Sunday may incorporate traditional Anglican Chant, a metrical setting in The Hymnal
or other hymn supplement, or a modern-day chant from the Taizé tradition.
We also have a small but dedicated group of handbell ringers who provide occasional supplemental accompaniment for choir and congregation, and we welcome a variety of guest instrumentalists. Children are always invited and encouraged to participate – Treble Choir, instruments, percussion, or handbells/chimes – music is educational AND fun!
Our charming 1964 Steiner pipe organ provides the foundation for hymns, liturgical settings and choral music, as well as frequent lively improvised postludes; we hope to celebrate its 50th year with timely maintenance and improvements to its acoustic environment for the enrichment of congregational singing.
DIRECTOR
Daniel D. Martin is Organist and Choirmaster at St. James’ Church.

Dan first showed interest in piano and organ at the tender age of three; years later, he was accompanist for his high school chorus, and he accepted his first paid organist position when he was just 16 years old. Dan stayed close to home (in Florida) for undergraduate study in organ performance at Jacksonville University; he moved to Louisville for graduate work in organ and conducting at Southern Seminary and decided to stay in the area.
In his spare time (whatever that is), Dan enjoys composing for the St. James' Choir, hiking in the mountains, or savoring a sturdy dark craft brew.
Recorded Music from the Choir
Virtual quartet for Trinity Sunday. This is our first virtual endeavor with organ. The organ part and each individual voice is recorded alone, then combined and edited (to get everyone on the same beat and create a balanced, blended sound). Photos are then added to make video. click HERE.
