Worship Committee

"When we worship together as a community of living Christians, we do not worship alone, we worship 'with all the company of heaven.'"
Marianne H. Micks

"As long as you notice, and have to count the steps, you are not yet dancing but only learning to dance. A good shoe is a shoe you don't notice. Good reading becomes possible when you need not consciously think about eyes, or light, or print, or spelling. The perfect church service would be the one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God."
C.S. Lewis

Mission

The Worship Committee’s mission is to invite the congregation to the celebration of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, in thanksgiving, praise and worship through various modes of expression.

The St. James’ Worship Committee is committed to providing meaningful worship experiences for our members and visitors. The worship committee exists to provide guidance for what happens during our worship times. Its role is to examine all our various worship experiences and make recommendations to the rector for ways that each can be strengthened and improved. We serve in an advisory role to the rector.

The Worship Committee shall consist of members from the St. James' Community. The Committee represents the various ministries and guilds that serve to assist and enhance our worship celebrations as well as various parishioner demographics, such as young families, singles, and new members of our faith community.

The committee helps to coordinate all parts of our worship life including:

    • Acolytes
    • Altar Guild
    • Choir & Music
    • Flowers
    • Lay Eucharistic Ministers
    • Lay Readers
    • Oblation Bearers and Ushers
    • Special Services, such as, Stations of the Cross, Easter Vigil, etc
    • Tract Rack Literature
    • Vergers

The Worship Committee will meet on a regular basis to discuss and plan worship services. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere where all may worship our Creator and Lord as part of a community of mutual love and respect.

Guiding Principles

The guiding principles of the Worship Committee are:

    • To give the congregation the opportunity to worship God fully in the spirit of the Lord in many modes
    • To give study to ways that worship can be more inclusive for all
    • To develop a philosophy of worship for our church
    • To minister to the entire church community and to worship communities outside St. James, in the spirit of ecumenism wherever possible
    • To be engaged in the mission of bringing Christ to the world
