As we prepare to journey with Jesus toward the cross, our worship during Lent takes on a different look and feel.
We remove some of the “sparkle” – brass, brightly colored tapestries, candles, and flowers – and there are more opportunities to linger in the silence that surrounds us.
Our service music (Kyrie, Sanctus, etc.) is unaccompanied, taking us back to a much simpler time of music in the church (the ancient term "a cappella" actually means, "like in a chapel"); a leader (usually our Choirmaster, Daniel) will sing the first few notes as an introduction and then invite everyone to sing.
These subtle differences are intended to simplify our sensory experience, so that our hearts and minds may focus more intently on this journey.
