Season after Pentecost

Rev. Debbie Dehler June 12, 2025

With the changing of the seasons, both in terms of environment and liturgical, we will be changing our liturgy a bit beginning this Sunday.

The Season after the Pentecost is long: it begins with the celebration of the Trinity this Sunday and ends with the celebration of Christ the King Sunday on Nov. 23.

We will have three noticeable liturgical changes as this season progresses:

Now until August 24, we will be using the approved liturgical resource: Enriching Our Worship 1 (EOW) (1998, Church Pension Fund). When we use this resource, it is expected we use the contemporary Lord's Prayer (the one on the right in the Book of Common Prayer) and the "expanded" version of the Nicene Creed. We will use Eucharistic Prayer One from EOW. Daniel has chosen familiar service music.

The six-week Creation season goes from August 31-October 5. We will offer prayers prepared by the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, as we have for the past 2 years. These prayers include the Confession, the Lord's Prayer, and the Post-Communion Prayer.
Beginning August 31through November 23 we will use the Expanded Version of Eucharistic Prayer C, which was adapted in the past few years to better follow the pattern and rhythm of the other Eucharistic prayers. I have a presentation to offer to anyone who would like to learn more about these changes.

Other small changes:

We will only print one announcement page each month. It will be available for pick up on Sundays. Any updates will be offered either verbally or in a blurb in the leaflet, if there is sufficient room.
I am no longer doing a "welcome" from the front of the church. I offer a brief hello and invitation to sing the opening hymn.
The choir will be on hiatus for the five Sundays in August.

I recently attended a conference that reminded me that worship is a key place for spiritual growth. I hope you find attending worship to be just one of the places you learn just how much God loves you — and that worship fills your soul to go out into the world and share that love to all.

See you in Church!
