On Friday October 12, 2018 the water temperature at Geist Creek Lake was 72 degrees. For the first 21 minutes of my swim, that temperature felt invigorating. Then I started losing sensation at the point of my pointer finger. At 29 minutes I could not feel my toes and, to my dismay, I began to feel the initial tingle at the base of my spine which, when left unattended, becomes a shiver. Shivering ends swimming. And I was a almost a mile from our put-in. The way back was against the current and against the wind and usually takes an extra 5-10 minutes than the way out. I made it back in 22 minutes which is exactly the moment when feeling in the point of my pointer returned.
