First season of liturgical year C

Rev. Debbie Dehler November 30, 2024

Advent Dec. 1- 24

This is the first season of liturgical year C, when we will primarily read from the Gospel of Luke. Advent is celebrated for the four Sundays before Christmas. It is both a season of preparation for the coming of Jesus, as both a babe, and when he comes again at the end of time; and a penitential season, when we might consider accepting transformation in our own lives. The color on the altar can be either purple or blue.

This year, we will use liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), Rite One. You will use the physical BCP as you follow along during the service. Our liturgical music will come from the “S” section of the Hymnal, and you will be asked to sing along, turning to the front section of the Hymnal for the tunes and words.

For some, this is almost a homecoming, returning to a service that may have been how they worshiped in their early life, particularly prior to 1978. For others, this will be different and may be a bit uncomfortable, as the language is from a different time.

We strive to experience a variety of worship styles throughout the liturgical year as an opportunity to hear the Holy Spirit in new and exciting ways.
