Sermon delivered September 16, 2018

The Rev. H. Elizabeth Back September 18, 2018

From the Letter of James: All of us make many mistakes.

On a family vacation my family drove by a historic civic building, something like a courthouse. We were somewhere in the Deep South and my middle brother and I were young teenagers. In an effort to edify, my father slowed down the station wagon so we could read the giant words engraved over the entrance of the building. “Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Set you Free.”

“Who said that?” My father quizzed us. Instantaneously, and with confidence, Luke and I both replied, “Abraham Lincoln!” My father shook his head and replied, “Jesus.”
