Dear St James Community, our indefinite physical separation is a chance to triumph and a chance to tank. Take it from an endurance athlete: We are running a race we did not train for. which makes it easy to get injured or even drop out. We are definitely gonna get sore but as of today I see no reason whatsoever to drop out. In fact, I only feel more motivated to rise to the hardships ahead.
Originally, when I thought our physical separation was a kind of a 10k effort to flatten a curve I felt like I was up to the challenge. Now that I understand that for us, as a community of faith, this pandemic separation is like a 100 mile trail race into high elevation I have a different perspective. This is going to hurt. We didn’t arrive at the start line with the proper gear, nutrition or even shoes for this journey. We don’t even know where the finish line is! And we can’t imagine what St. James will look like when we cross it. Botn the Bible, and in my personal life, God works best under conditions like this!
Now is more important than ever before to be both inviting and welcoming to strangers.
Now is more important than ever before to sing! Our pipe organ is a powerful musical instrument we now get to share with THE WORLD!! And St James has a musician who knows how to play it skillfully AND singers who know how to lead our hearts to praise. AND a staff member who can record, edit and produce their offerings!
Now is more important than ever before to pray. Thanks be to God for the Daughters of the King and their leadership. With them, EVERYONE one of us must pray!
Now is more important than ever before to represent the community God has planted at St James in Pewee Valley as an offering of Loving People and Serving People to THE WORLD.
We may never know whose heart God is transforming through what we offer on the web. This trail is not our choice but it is our’s to run.
How does a person run any race, especially a race for which you have not trained?
Run the mile you are in.
That is the only way to pace yourself. Don’t try and plan ahead to a mile you have not arrived at yet. Keep yourself on your feet and keep moving.
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart.
