St James - Loving People. Serving People

The Rev. H. Elizabeth Back January 20, 2020

2Cor4:6 For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The purpose of this blog is to shine the light of God’s love as we know it in Christ Jesus from St James’ Episcopal Church to the world.

The first light we want to shine is on the mission God has given us at 401 LaGrange Rd:  Loving People Serving People.  Our elected leadership was given this mission after prayerful reflection upon the spirit of our congregation and examination of the many resources God has given us as a community for the community.  The vitality we enjoy is a gift we want to share here at this address and beyond.  If you want to read about the many diverse ministries available at or connected to St James’ click the following URL or paste in your browser:

St James, the man himself,  was originally in the fishing business and Jesus took him away from mending fishing nets to preach,  heal,  and ultimately, die for his sake.  James is the face by which we see the light of God shining in a world ‘caught up’ in anxiety or tangled in broken nets and desperately seeking mending.  If you want to feel what a ‘mending’ environment feels like or be part of untangling enterprises come and visit.  Then, shine the light you are given here to the next person who might just be hoping they can belong the catch of God’s day.

Matthew 5: 14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
